Good experience opening a bank account on a 90-day visa. You'll need a Vietnamese SIM card and some credit to send an SMS as part of the registration process. You'll also need to bring your passport and your e-visa. Then fill out paperwork which will take a bit of time. If you're an American, you'll fill out even more paperwork 😂 I ended up spending a couple hours getting my account opened even though I was second in line. There were quite a lot of people who go to this bank! A photo of your face will be taken. Then the helpful staff will download the app and set you up. I'm in awe with the lady who you'll first encounter at the bank. Despite all the customers, she deals with every customer professionally and doesn't seem overwhelmed. You won't be issued an ATM card. You can transfer money into your account using WISE. You can use the app to pay with QR scan which is accepted everywhere even from street vendors. You can also use it to transfer money to other Vietnamese bank accounts (i.e. to your landlord for rent). You don't even need to use cash, just the QR payment! When your e-visa expires, your account will be frozen. Show your new e-visa and you can use your bank account again.

Modern and efficient service. Withdrawing VND from USDT via the QR code was straightforward. The exchange rate is fair, and the whole process is much faster than waiting for P2P transfers.

Vietcombank has gotten much faster recently. Whether it’s at the counter or using the mobile app, everything is processed more quickly. I don’t have to wait as long as before, and the overall service feels more efficient. Really happy with the improvement.
